happy tears

Do you ever have one of those days where you just need a bit of a cry? I'm not talking about needing a good "sad cry," but those tears that are triggered by something that moves you from the lyrics of a song to a commercial on tv? Am I in my own boat on this? Well folks, today is one of those days for me :) The smiley face is because I like days like today. The funny thing is that you never know when you are having one of "these days" until you are smiling while crying and singing all at the same time. Then the inevitable epiphany occurs, "OH! It's a Rachael is going to cry while singing songs she loves day!" Again, not to be confused with an "I'm sad at the world day."
*On a semi-related note, if you haven't seen Dane Cook's Viscous Circle stand up about having a 'weap-a-thon' do it, it is so stinkin' funny!
Anyhow, mostly these "happy tears," as I like to call them, sneak out while I'm driving and a song comes on that invokes a particular emotional response. These songs, more often than not, are country. One in particular that always gets me is God Bless the Broken Road by Rascal Flatts. I was thinking about contestants from The Voice (I LOVE The Voice, it is a great show and it was on last night :) who have done a fantastic job over the seasons with various songs and Jeff Jenkins from season one came to mind. Jeff Jenkins not only had a touching story to go along with is phenomenal voice, but he also had a personality and overall look about him that reminded me so, so, SO much of my baby brother (who is now 20). For some reason this kid just spoke to me and every time he sang, there I was with those silly, happy tears running down my face as I smiled. Naturally, I had to find the video of his blind audition where he sang God Bless the Broken Road. It took awhile, but I found it, watched it about three times in a row as I wiped away happy tears. Maybe it's because the song is so very wonderful and rings true to me or the fact that Mr. Jenkins sang with so much soul, but honestly, I'm pretty sure it is because he reminds me so much of Caleb. Seeing and hearing him sing just brings a smile to my face because I think about how awesome my little brother is and how proud I am of the man he is becoming. It's enough to bring on the happy tears ;)

My baby brother is finally doing what he was meant to do...
DRIVE TRAINS!

Hear Jeff Jenkins sing God Bless the Broken Road! It truly I amazing. I think he sings it better that Rascal Flatts even.
