Bass-akwards

A few weeks ago, I finally received the next book in a series that I'm enjoying presently. I pre-ordered this book in July-that's how excited I was to continue on with the quest that is The Heroes of Olympus by Rick Riordan. This series continues Rick Riordan's Percy Jackson novels, but adds in new characters and of course new adventures. I have already read (and re-read numerous times) all five novels in the Percy Jackson series as well as the first three novels in The Heroes of Olympus. As far as I'm aware, there are to be five total and The House of Hades, i.e. the pre-order that I received, was the fourth installment. Both series are phenomenal and rival my all time favorite book series Harry Potter. No book series will ever be better than Harry Potter. Truth.

I am constantly getting sucked into new book series. I have been focused on these two connected series since I was first introduced to The Lightning Thief, the first in the Percy Jackson series, back in 2010 while I was teaching often at Rowe Middle School. I have always been interested in super hero stories and characters. These book series are no exception. To quote Rick Riordan,

"To a degree, the Greek and Roman mythological heroes are just the first superheroes. They appeal to children for much the same reason. These gods and heroes may have powers, but they get angry and they do the wrong thing. They are human too."

I could not agree more with him. I remember learning a bit of Greek mythology back in grade school, but not nearly as much as I realized I wanted to learn. These books have not only entertained me, but have also taught me so much more about Greek and Roman mythological stories and characters. These stories are so wonderfully imaginative and make for fantastic reads as they are mixed in with modern day cultures and characters.

It has been about six months or more since I went back and read the novels that preceded The House of Hades, so after I finished it (in about four days mind you...funny how I've been waiting for months to read this book and I can't even make it last a week! :) I decided I would read both series again, but backwards to remind myself of the story and plot. So far I have read The House of Hades- book 4 The Heroes of Olympus (HOO), The Mark of Athena- book 3 HOO, and I am well into The Son of Neptune- book 2 HOO. I still have a ways to go...six more books to read in reverse order :) Challenge extended! Moral of today's post...READ OFTEN! Also, that sometimes it's fun to do the same things you have done before, but in a new and challenging way :)
